Bob Davila is the Babe Ruth of the Deaf World

Commentary by Brian Riley:

I hereby give my personal endorsement of Robert Davila as the Ninth President of Gallaudet. Through all my communications with many of the people involved, it is clear to me now that the Board of Trustees made the very correct decision when they hired Dr. Davila.

I see now that we can place our full trust in Dr. Davila to do what is necessary to clean up the mess created by the last administration. The "spring cleaning" has already begun! I watch in amazement as the process is unfolding in front of our eyes.

Bob, when you stepped up to the plate last December and gave your acceptance speech you swung hard and made solid contact. We all held our breath as we watched the ball soar high, high into the air. We can see now that the ball is headed over the fence. Everyone is just now beginning to rise from their chairs to salute you and cheer you on.

You are the Babe Ruth of the Deaf World! You are running down the base path now toward first base. Soon you will round first and head around to second, third and home. Your short presidency will be over and your teammates will rush out of the dugout to greet you as we watch your foot land on home plate and you finish in triumph.

It will be a "grand slam home run" for Bob Davila, the Babe Ruth of the Deaf world.

Thank you, Bob Davila, and congratulations on your ongoing and continuing success.

If you build it, they will come.

Brian,

You seem not to have read the fine print in the position announcement. Davila's job is TEMPORARY. You can endorse him all you like...but remember, he's only going to be Gallaudet Prez for up to 18 months at most. According to the position announcement, Davila CANNOT apply for the permanent position once he has accepted the *temporary* position.

Yes, Davila is wonderful, but we will only have him TEMPORARILY.

Hi Michele,

Think of each base on the diamond as being a six-month period. That's the analogy. Dr. Davila has hit the ball and he's running part way to first base. We see the ball up in the air and we know it will go over the fence, but it isn't over the fence yet.

He is "hitting it out of the park," which is the common analogy for doing a fanststic job.

He really is. Right now he is like "The Babe."
